Axiata Young Talent Programme 2011 ^^

Yesterday I went to the Axiata centre for the Young Talent Programme's assessment. All I can say is it was really exciting, unforgetable and challenging. It lasted 12 hours and I felt extremely tired after that. But still, I had fun and I enjoyed very much.

I reached there about 7.45am as we required to reach at 8am. I saw quite a lot of people but all of them were new to me >< Luckily, Hong Ken came in. I was like, finally I found someone that I know hahahaha. Nevermind, I knew that I was going to be friend with them soon =) The candidates that came today were about 28 people. Then, we were separated into groups and I was in the Pinky Team lol.

All my teammates were so smart O.O Firstly, we started off with some introduction about Axiata. After that, we went through a TST test. It was to determine your ability to learn and also test your amplitude. This assessment was really fun and challenging. It seemed to be quite easy, but actually it was very very challenging when we were only given 3 minutes to answer 60 questions, 4 minutes to answer 72 questions, etc. The questions were like determine rotation of shapes, calculation and others. It was hard to explain in words, you can ask me personally if you want to know lol. But I would say that you need to balance between your speed and accuracy. Make sure that you are 100% awake!

Then, we sat in groups and started our second assessment. We required to do a survey in KL Central and came out with a product or services. During the survey, we faced the problem that we were being ignored by the people, so we went into Mc Donald and fortunately, the people there were all willing to answer us ^^ Now I knew how the sales felt when they were being rejected by us =P

Besides, we had a variety of assessment like group presentations, board room meeting, individual writting assignment, individual presentation and even debate! Don't think that they are all very hard lol, you will really enjoy them. Well, at least I did =P My group members came out with many brilliant ideas, and all of us presented it well too. I think that the product + service that we came out with were quite outstanding compared to the other 2 team =P We had a long term view instead of limiting our development with a small field haha. I've learnt a lot through this assessment.

During the debate session, it was my first time to debate in English. I did feel nervous but after all, I knew that all would be fine ^^ I learnt the skill of debate and how they presented their points and also came out with points to rebate in a short time. It was really great. Personally, I felt that my group member, Aaron is so awesome. The way he brought out the points, did the starting and conclusion were awesome. He said things like "walk with me, share the vision with me, a thousand miles start with one step.....". All these touched out heart and made us fell into his ideas (but anyway, we were in the same boat haha).

Then, at the end of the individual presentation, the assessor said that I got the courage, some broad ideas and also the maturity. She also agreed with me that I need to improve my presentation skills in English haha. They treated me very good and I really love the way how they assessed us. We learnt through the assessment and we came out to be a better one.

One of them even used my quote during presentation to share with all the participants lol. It was "winners do not need to have the best of everything, they make the best of anything". This is really a nice quote. She told all of us that, we are already a winner as we could get there and went through the assessment. It was already an achievement. It is a reality that scholarships have their own limited spaces, but whether we can get it or not, she believe that all of us presented can succeed in our own ways.

Yea, I believe that too. Your ability to succeed is not depend on which world known university that you enter or how high your grades are. It depends on how you bring yourself out. I brought my camera and took photos there too! (experience from Petronas Camp =P) We shall meet again one day, my friends =D

I feel no regret that I used my whole day and missed 4 classes for being there. I gained an unreplaceable experience there. I know it myself. During this assessment, I have challenged myself to break through my limitation and now, I can do more and aim higher. Thanks to Axiata, all the assessors and also all my teammates. Together we had made a really good team =)

" Never ever let anyone stops you from being successful,
the process must only be yourself and your goals,
and there's nothing else in between! "
That was what she told us =)

Petronas Eduquest Camp 2011

Well, I'm back to Selangor already ^^

I went to Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) yesterday to attend the camp. Basically, we needed to do tests and interview at there in order to qualify ourselves for the Petronas Scholarship. Let me share my experience and some tips about it =D By that day I received the sms from Petronas, I was thinking whether I should go there. I know this question is kinda stupid. It's a full scholarship for pre-university and degree level, and I was thinking to give up this chance! Alright, don't scold me.

First thing, I did not know how could I get there. It's a long way from here to Perak. Second thing is it was a bit rush as they announced the results quite late. At the end, after listened to my friends and did research online, I decided to go. And I felt very touch when my dad was saying he would fetch me there. It's not so good for him to drive a long distance due to his health condition, but still he was willing to fetch me all the way to Perak T.T

So, I prepared all my stuffs, including two baju kurung borrowed from other people. I departed very early in the morning, it was like 4.30am as we were required to register at 8am. When I reached there, I was quite impressed by the environment of the university. It is a big land with a lake, a mosque on the lake, some other facilities and they actually have a place for kayaking!

Among the participants, there were not many chinese and indian were even less =X I saw Chong Sheng and Valerie too. I guess there were only 3 of us from Catholic High School. It was 2 person in a room and my roommate was Mei Fen, a banana hahaha. The room was quite big and the fan is good enough haha. There were cupboard, table, chair and even a small notice board for each person. The toilet and the bathroom were quite nice and clean too. Just that the room was a bit dirty, I guessed there has been nobody living inside for quite a period of time.

By the way, just a reminder, it is better for girls to wear baju kurung because most of the participants wore that. Then, we headed to the Chansellor Hall. The hall and their library are so so so awesome~~~ If anyone of you got the chance to go to UTP, must make a visit to their Chansellor Hall, library and also the mosque. I only got the chance to go to the Chansellor Hall, I wished that I could enter the library too >< They have around six level book shelves inside, can you imagine how many books they have inside?! O.O Anyway, back to the topic lol.

We were being introduced about Petronas and also the scholarship. If you get the scholarship, after you have finished your studies, you will have bonding with Petronas and serve them for 5 years. If you are not employed, maybe because they have enough employees or you do not meet their requirement, you will have to pay back 20% of the amount of scholarship to them. Lastly, if you break the contract, you will need to pay back 100%. The scholarship will cover the living fees, computer loan, instrument, books and also allowance for thesis, industrial training and at the end of studies. If you achieve good results (CGPA > 3.5) or get top award from competition, you will get reward in term of $$ too =P

After that, we handed in our documents. If you do not certify the documents or you left out some, do not be panic haha. They will certify for you (but you must bring the original copy) and you can actually fax back the left out documents to them after you go back home. One thing important is when you are filling the application form online, do make sure that you have the certificates for every activities or posts that you fill in. I know there are people saying that we can put in extra certificates when you do research on internet, but for this year they emphasized many times that we should only hand in the relevant documents. So, I don't think we should put in extras.

Then, we had some tests throughout this two days. Firstly, we had our MST (Maths & Science Test). It was about Add Math, Physics and Chemistry during Form 4 & 5, 30 objective questions in an hour and no formulaes were provided. So, for the people who will be attending the camp, better study a bit before you go XD By the way, for those who go for finance, accounting and economics, we only need to take the Add Maths Test. In other word, I got exemption from taking the Science test, whee~~~ ^^

Next would be the value profiling. It was not an exam, it was just a test to determine your personality. That's all for the first day. Oh yea, we got our number for interview at the night, mine was C-13-4. C was the group, 13 was the panel and 4 was your turn to answer. I was trying to find the people who had the same panel with me but I could only find one >< For today, I (Group C and D) did my tests in the morning and interview in the afternoon whereas Group A and B did otherwise. The first one was EPT (English Placement Test), 50 question in an hour. It was like our SPM English and all were objectives. I felt that was quite alright.

Then, it came to CRT (Critical Reasoning Test). It seperated to two parts : Diagrammatic Series and Verbal Evaluation. The Verbal Evaluation was 60 questions in 30 minutes. It was to measure your understanding of opinions and information of the passage. You would need to read quite a number of passages and answer whether the statements given were true, false or you cannot say. Honestly, I didn't really have enough time to complete it. You will need the passage clearly and in a fast speed. When you are answering the questions, do not take a long time to think, just follow your hunch =) For the Diagrammatic Series, it was 40 questions in 20 minutes. Basically, it was to measure your analytical and sequencing skill. You would be given 5 diagrams and you needed to choose the sixth diagram. If you can identify the techniques to do, there would not be any problem, just that the time was very limited.

Lastly, it would be the interview. We were required to do a case study and give our opinions and recommendation. My group (Group C)got the title of "Education Policy". We were required to present it individually, following by the discussion and come out with the policy. I was in panel 13. I was in the same team with 3 Malay guys (pity right? ><) lol. They were Farhan, Syafiz and Wan. They were all so friendly and good to me, thank God =P

So, I entered the room and my interviewers were two Malay guy. They looked quite good lol. I briefly introduced myself and then presented my ideas. They tried to provote me but luckily I managed to answer and they said that I got the points =P Then, we went in as a team. We shared our ideas and discussed to get the best way out. I think we did it quite well. At the end of it, we were saying thanking you and the 3 guys were shaking hand with them. I felt a bit awkward in that situation lol. It was because I could not shake with them, they are not allowed to come in contact with different gender. Nevermind, it's alright.

After all, I felt quite released. I started to pack my things and prepare to go home. We took the bus from UTP, then took the Starline to KL Sentral. Initially, I was wondering not to go because of transport problem. But now, I feel glad that I've made a right choice. I've gained a lot from there. I met a lot of new friends in this camp, I even met 3 friends that went to the Penang Camp three years ago! Of course not forgetting my roommate, Mei Fen, she is really a good friend lol. Hope to see her again ^^. Oh yea! I forgot to bring my camera ><

When we say "cannot",
We are actually saying the "can" before the "not" =)

JPA Scholarship Interview ^.^

As stated at the title, I went for JPA Scholarship interview today =) Overall I would say it was quite alright, just that I got a bit stuck when I was answering in BM =P

Oh yea, I wore baju kurung to the interview, it was my first time since I participated in the performance during kindergarten!! A big thank you to Amiera (my coursemate) ^^ By the time I asked her, she said yes without any further consideration. She is awesome~ I will be meeting her at the Petronas Eduquest Camp on Sunday, all the best to both of us =D

Here, I would like to share my experience today. I think it could be useful as a reference for those who are interested in applying JPA in the future. My interview started at 2.45pm and I was requested to reach there half an hour earlier to register. There were clear directions for us, so do not need to worry that you cannot find the block. When I reached there, I started to find my name on the white board. I was in panel 10 and I was the first batch to interview after they came back for lunch. I met shan en, yeo jia ying and kai lun lol!! I believe that they could do well =)

Then, I went to upstairs. We needed to gather in a room and hand over our certificates for review. They gave us a number tag and I got number 2. I introduced and communicated with the candidates who were in the same group with me. Yea, you would need to do that so that you got to know each other better. It will be easier for you to do group discussion with them during interview.

My group consisted of 3 chinese girl (including me), 1 chinese boy and 1 malay boy. We are interested in different field such as finance, business management, pharmacist, natural science and engineering. After that, we entered the interview room. My interviewers were all Malays (1 lady and 2 guy) but they were very nice and friendly. They guided us and clearified some misunderstandings to us. There were laughing throughout the whole process, it was not as serious and tension as I thought it would be ( was this a good thing? ) =P

They asked us a few questions as below :
1) Introduce yourself in English, you need to include your name, school, family background, activities in school. (Talk about your achievement at different field to show that you are an all rounder, remember to mention about your involvements and achievements that you wrote in your online application form. If not, they will ask you why you did not mention ??? that you wrote.)

2) Why do you want to study this subject? (As a reminder, sastera ikhtisas means finance or economy, actuarial science is not included. They clearified that for me hahaha)

3) Which country do you want to go to and why? (Do some research about the country that you want to go and target an university that you wish to enter. They will ask you about that to determine your passion and planning for your respective course)

4) What if JPA offer you to study in local but not overseas, will you still accept?

5) Group Discussion in BM: Selepas kamu menamatkan pengajian di luar negara, apakah sumbangan yang dapat kamu berikan dalam membangunkan ekonomi negara? (there was a programme name for the economy that our government has invented but I could not remember what it was. Four of us did not know anything about the programme, luckily the malay guy knew about it =P )

These were all they had asked. It seemed to be less but my interview lasted for almost one hour (much longer than others O.O). There were also a few things that you need to focus on:
- Practice your speaking in English and BM, you will definitely be tested on both of it

- When they ask in BM, then you will need to answer in BM, same goes for English

- For girls, when they mention formal attire, it is always better for you to wear baju kurung or collar shirt with pants. Do not wear slipper.(There was people wearing skirt and slipper today but they still can enter the interview, I guess they were not too strict this year. Anyway, it will always be better that you present yourself well in front if the interviewers.)

- Do some research about your course (where to study and why, how is the process, why it will be needed, how can you contribute)

- Prepare your documents and file them up according to the sequence. Remember certify your documents that they requested before you go to the interview. (There was one guy came with documents that have not been certified, I did not know how he ended up with but I guess that would not give a good impression to the one who was responsible for checking the documents)

- Do not be nervous during the interview (I know it is hard but just do your best)

- Say things that you have confirmed, try to relate some current issues with your points

- Greet the interviewers and shake their hand before you leave (Shake with the interviewers that are same gender with you as some of the Malays actually cannot come in contact with people that are different gender.)

- Do not ask the interviewers questions about the process of JPA like when will the results release, will we get notify or what should I do if I want to change course. They will not know as they only in charge of the interview session. You can get answers for these from the workers in charge of checking documents.

- Last but not least, smile =D

I think that's all for today. Addition to it, Chun Kit and Win Yen, there's no problem with my voice hahahahaha. In fact, the other two chinese girls were asking whether I have involved in public speaking XDD JPA scholarship is done, next will be Petronas Eduquest Camp on coming Sunday. Emm..... I should have stayed more calm and tried to think more solid points. Nevermind, I know that I have tried my best.

Whether I can get it or not, it depends on God and the interviewers' decisions. But of course I wish and I pray that I can get it so that I no need to worry about money problem for my future studies. Anyway, I hope that this can give a little guidance to the future candidates. All the best to the candidates went for 2010 JPA Scholarships!

Hope separates the quitters today from the winners tomorrow =)

My First TimeS

After I finished my class at 4.30pm, Ruby and I went to the power studio.

Yea, I signed up as a dance club member =P I remember very well that when I was young, I like to sing, dance, draw and play music instruments. All of them basically are from the art field, just that my family does not have the money for me to learn. So I switched to the science field especially to the maths world which made me who I am today. I never regret as I know I am born with the way of thinking and the skills that suitable for the number world (of course not as professional as the mathematicians, just the way of doing business i think? =P) I believe the God will know which is the best for me =)

Despite all these, deep in my heart I am still waiting for the chance to learn all these. So now, I will start with dancing. We waited until 5.30pm for the class and the teacher intoduced herself to us. Ruby told me that she is a very experienced dance instructor O.O I did not know who are the people they were mentioning, but I can see their reputation through the face of the people around me. It seemed like I have a good intructor here ^^

We started with some basic warm up. She said that we must learn how to dance before we really go into different type of dancing. So, she taught us the basic steps of dancing. All of us did pretty well =) Ruby and I left at 6pm before the class end as we needed to go to the next round --> badminton match. Do not look at me like wow~ O.O lol!!!

It was my first time. We registered just to have fun and gain experience. When we reached the MPH (Multi Purpose Hall), the matches had already started with man single and mix double. Those people were all with good skills and techniques. I guess I no need to tell how our match ended up hahahahaha. Nevertheless, it was a great experience =)

The next time you see me,
I will definitely do better than how I did =D

Just An Ordinary Day =)

It started with going to school at 7.30am. Honestly, I felt pretty tired as I worked for the whole day yesterday. When I reached home, I went to sleep after I finished my stuffs. Then, I woke up at 4.30am to complete my assignments and prepare for my account test. Yea, working is tiring but I will continue with it. I do enjoy and have fun during working time, at the same time I can earn money too ^^

During the management class, Miss Zurina shared something with us. Last week, there was a forum held for the july intake students, it was about sex. There were three panels, one of them is transsexual, another woman has forced by her husband to become a sex worker while the last one is a homosexual. Three of them are HIV positive.

They shared their experience with the students and all of them had a hard life. Miss Zurina repeated the sentence said by the panels to us,"We had a dream, we had a dream that we could sit at the place that all of you are sitting". I believe that what they said had touched all the students' heart. Normally, people used to have prejudice towards them. Well, that is not including me, I do have friends that are homosexual lol.

By the way, my main point is not about this. My main point is do the people ever try to understand how they feel before having a preconception towards them? All of them are human as us, they become like this because of different reasons. But I believe that all of them will hope to live a normal life like us.

I know sometimes it is hard for people to be with them as we will worry to get infected by some diseases. But at least we should try to help them get out of their hard lives instead of isolate them. They need help and they are hoping that we can lend a hand. A little help that we give will make a great inference to them. THEY belong to US. WE are the same.

An ordinary day for us, is a special day for them.

Today Is @ YES Day!

My day started as usual, woke up in the morning and went to school lol. But I was not going directly for classes as my class would only start at 12.45pm. I went to Sunway Pyramid with my friends. We were planning to go for bowling practice as we were interested to join the coming SCT Sport Carnival. Sounds fun right? We had the same thought too XD

We had Mc Donalds for breakfast before that and I felt so full~ Unfortunately, we walked a long distance to the bowling centre, and the worker there told us that the place has been booked until 2pm. We were like "Aduh.....plan spoilt...><" Then, Ruby suggested to go to the arcade. Six of us played the car racing together and Yes!I got the third placing! I think it was my first time to play this with friend as I don't really like to go this kind of place~

Then, we had a "photo session" at the mall. I bet the people was wondering where were these crazy people come from? XD In fact, we really had a lot of fun with it. We went back for our critical thinking and math classes after our crazy time. Ms Michelle did wear blue and white today! She really took it serious and fulfilled her promise, I love you!! hahaha

Our maths class was even happier. For the whole 1 hour and 15 minutes, it was full of laughters =D I got 30/32 for maths test and I got a lesson. I shall remember it is five thousand, six hundred and fifteen (just an example), there are no "s" behind them!!T.T Nowonder teacher mentioned that my first page had big problem on that day.

After my classes, I went to the Young Enterpreur Club meeting. I joint this club because it looks fun and I get to learn more about business in practical way. For the first activity or it was more like a business game, I had been chosen as the England team leader. I led them until the end of the game, my group members were awesome and efficient! And I guessed we had the most money among all =P

When the game had ended, they were required to write the strength and weakness about their team leader, and the team leader would need to read them out in front of all the people. So, I was required to read out the strengths written by my members first. When it came to the weakness part, I flipped through all the small pieces of papers, they didn't write anything for my weakness. The committee said congrats to me for doing my job well. I felt extremely happy and touch on that moment. It was like we just met each other and were put into the same group. We were needed to cooperate to achieve the best without knowing each other. It was like an on the spot challenge for me and my members had gave in their best for me.

Then, they were announcing some future activities. They encouraged us to join and try to go for the chairperson of the activities. I did wrote my name down and we stayed back for a small interview session. We sat in a role in front of the president and the advisor. We had to answer some question and gave solution for the respective scenario. Honestly, I felt a bit nervous when sitting in front of them hahaha. We will get to know whether we got chosen or not by next week. Anyway, I had tried my best =) And the YES club is awesome~ =D

The last but not least, I went to check on the JPA Scholarship once I got home. It is a TAHNIAH!!!! Thank God, I really feel very happy over it. Although I know I have not gotten the scholarship yet, and the most important is the interview as that will determine whether you can get it or not, but I still feel excited for having a chance to go for the interview. I will need to prepare well for that and pray to God that I can do it well. If I can get it, I no need to worry that much for $$ already haha. It is time to sleep now, chaos~

There are only two ways to go
It is either you go on or you give up
And I have chosen the first one =)

A Day With Some Little Surprises =P

Early in the morning, I followed my brother's car to go to school. As usual, I was sleeping in the car XD

I was wearing Sunway T-shirt in dark blue colour for the first time. Yea, our class, or I should say my big gang has made an agreement that we would wear the Sunway T-shirt together on today. I bet people around was wondering how come there was many people wearing the same shirt today? hahaha... Even our critical thinking teacher, Ms Michelle was thinking that we had some activites that required this dress code. Tomorrow we will be wearing white and blue =)

Anyway, it is just only the minor part of today. One of the little surprises was the math quiz. I considered it as little as it had not shock me until I got heart attack =P Ms Muhinis just gave us the test without informing us earlier, so we did that without any preparation. This indicated that as a FIA student, we should be well prepared all the days, study constantly and consistently (quote by the teachers)XD

The maths questions were not so tough, but they were quite tricky and required us think over and over again. Some even required our logic thinking and we needed to play with the numbers. FIA maths is different from how we learnt in secondary school, it is business mathematics. So, when we get the answer, we must provide the appropriate explanation for it. Thus, we must analyse the questions and see beyond the numbers. I believe that I will get used to it soon =D

After all the classes had finished, I went to SAS Club (Statistical Analysis System Club) welcome party. I have some new friends there =) Vian, I met your previous LKT senior!! =P Anyway, this club is quite interesting. They will teach you about data mining, they will also organise trips to some companies, workshops and fun activities. There was an answering questions session and I got a notebook for answering who is the founder of SAS. The answer is Dr Jim Goodnight. Yea, his name is spell like that hahaha.

Then, Pevi and I went for the Badminton Club first meeting. They introduced the clubs to us and I chose Monday to play for my badminton session. They needed to choose 2 representatives for each day. Pevi and I volunteered to be the one. Since there were more than two people volunteered, they wrote our name in some small pieces of paper and picked up randomly. Surprisingly, Pevi and I got chosen for Monday!! Wan Siang was chosen as a representative for Friday too, CHS rocks XD

I feel very happy today hahaha =D

Surprises make my day special =D

Junior Camp 2011 =)

It's the time for our annual Junior Camp and it's our 2010 F5 Guides gathering~ wheee~~

So, Marissa, Sonia and I went back on the first day's evening. My God, we miss camping a lot~ We walked to the campside, watching the juniors working hard for the camp. Walking by those gadjets, tents, kitchen area....one year ago, i was in their place doing the same thing too. It made me feel like i'm already old and it's their time to shine now.

Then, we chatted with some of the juniors before we moved to our classroom for our own session XD All other guides will only come back on the next day's night gathering, so there were only 3 of us. After we ate our dinner, we stayed at the classroom and chat. Yea, we were kinda bad for not helping out. But still we believe that they can make it as they said that they were okay.

And....during the midnight, three of us did something crazy and "challenging" =X We went to the back door, then...we went out and came back again. We were "totally spies" that night~ I'm not going to describe the whole process here, it should be the crazy memory between 3 of us hahaha. Anyway it was, we had a great night before we went to sleep.

On the next day, seniors came to see us and talked so serious regarding the responsibilities of coming back as a senior. Somehow we just thought that they are too serious about these so called "responsibilities". From our point of view, it's important to hold the responsibility, but what can make us unite and work together is the bonding between us. There's no need to over emphasize the responsibility, it will only spoil the fun and ruin the day. There should be a balance and they should know the limit.

Anyway, i had to go to work on the next day, sonia went back home and marissa also went out. Somehow they just made us don't feel like staying there. Sorry to say that but yea..... We came back at about evening time for the campfire. By the time that i went back, a lot of people had already came back. Awww~~~ i miss them very very much!!! I would say our batch is the most awesome batch, there were more than 15 of us came back on that night! That's what we call the spirit of us in guiding!

We helped out for the campfire night and also the pelantikan. Their dancing and drama perfomances were really interesting and awesome. This batch of Form 3 guides did a really good job as a patrol leader. We had our small gathering and update session among ourselves too. Everyone started their new journey on achieving their great future. Although we walk on different pathways, but

We all know,
there's one thing that will hold us together,
its our friendship.
